: Husband and Wife Clash Outside Hardoi Women Police Station Over Dowry Motorcycle, Street Altercation Goes Viral
A husband and wife engaged in a dramatic street altercation outside the Women Police Station in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, over a motorcycle given as dowry. The viral incident followed a failed counseling session regarding alleged dowry harassment. Police intervened immediately, escorted both parties to the City Police Station, and confirmed that the dispute was later settled through mutual agreement.
The couple had been married for only three months. Reshma Devi, a resident of Newada Satan village under Hariyawan Police Station in Hardoi district, married Sachin Kumar, a resident of Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur district, on April 20. According to Reshma, her father gave ₹500,000 in cash and a motorcycle during the marriage. Despite this, she alleged that her husband's family continued to harass her by demanding a car as additional dowry.
Reshma further alleged that she was physically assaulted on June 27 and that a few days before the latest incident, her husband left her at her parental home. Following her complaint, both parties were summoned to the Women Police Station for counseling. After the counseling session concluded, the dispute intensified outside the police station when Reshma demanded the return of the motorcycle, which she claimed was registered in her name.
The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation on the road, where both husband and wife were seen pulling each other's collars. The incident attracted the attention of passersby, leading to a crowd gathering at the scene. Police personnel arrived promptly, brought the situation under control, and escorted both parties to the City Police Station.
Circle Officer Ajit Chauhan stated that police acted immediately to restore order. He confirmed that both parties subsequently reached a settlement and that the necessary legal proceedings were being carried out in accordance with the law.
Providing further clarification, Hardoi Circle Officer Ajit Singh said that the viral video circulating on social media showed the altercation between the husband and wife following a complaint that had been received online by the Women Police Station. He said the couple had been called to the police station on July 13, 2026, in an effort to reach a settlement, but the counseling session did not result in any agreement. After leaving the police station, the dispute over the motorcycle escalated into a physical fight, prompting immediate police intervention. Both individuals were taken to the City Police Station, where they ultimately resolved their differences through a mutual settlement.
Police officials confirmed that there is no longer any dispute between the couple. The incident has drawn widespread attention after the video circulated extensively on social media, highlighting how an ongoing dowry-related conflict and disagreement over property ownership erupted into a public confrontation before eventually being resolved through police intervention
